DO IT YOURSELF

DO IT YOURSELF

We either want to be in style, create out own unique look, or just look good. Some people may have the money to buy whatever clothes they want, get their nails done or go to the hairdressers every week to look good or update their fashion style. Some of us can’t spend that much on fashion, but we still want to look good and unique. I try to do some things myself that shape my own fashion style and saves me money.

1. Make your own shirts
Plain printed shirts are about $30-$70 that say only say a few words. They look good, but are they really worth it? Instead of buying these, I print my own shirts with a screen print, all I do is buy a few $6 shirts from kmart or best and less, create a stencil and screen print the shirts. (screen prints and squeedgees used could be pricey, but you can buy these discounted on ebay and use them for your clothes, presents and artworks)

these were $50 and $70

these were $6 and $10

2. Hem or fix your clothes
You can also hem your own pants or dresses to change the style of your clothes or just fix them. A needle and thread is all you really need, or you could buy or borrow a sewing machine from a friend.

3. Cut your own hair
I cut my own hair, yes because whenever ive been to the hairdressers they do a pretty bad job and make you pay an unreasonable amounts of money. I have heard so many stories from my friends about hairdressers cutting too much hair off when they only asked for a trim. Youtube have lots of tutorials for cutting hair or doing hairstyles that you do yourself so you don’t have to keep going to the hairdresser.

4. Paint your nails
I do my own nails. I hear from my friends that a manicure or pedicure cost about $30-50. A bottle of nail polish ranges from $3-$18. I personally buy Revlon nail polish and majority of them have been $5 (go to cheaper stores instead of paying $14). You can buy a few colours and do your nails yourself. You don’t have to sit in a smelly nail salon for half an hour and it will take less time. (ive never had acrylics but my friends have broken them within the first week of getting them, what’s the point?)

If you do it yourself you have a more unique style and you save money!

FASHION TRENDS OF 1960S AND 1970S

FASHION TRENDS OF THE 1960s AND 1970s:

Previously I blogged about the current 2012 fashion trends however have we ever thought of where our fashion has evolved from? How did we get to the way fashion is today? I always wander what life would have been like back in the era of the hippies and disco, lets jump back a few decades and check it out.

The 1960s was the era of rising hemlines and the mini skirts. Up until the 1960s hemlines were at an acceptable knee height with the introduction of the 60s hemlines grew shorter this created controversy when they first appeared exposing a lot more skin than bargained for.

The Mod fashion was another fashion trend of the 1960s this being modern fashion, referring to a youth lifestyle that emerged from London during the 1960s and became quickly popular. This mod fashion was slim fitting and featured geometric bold shapes and colours, which was a bit of a shock since the 50s consisted of dark black, brown and grey fashion.

A major fashion milestone of the 60s was the ‘hippie’ fashion, many young teens became bored with the lifestyle of the 50s and started to embrace the values of peace, love and freedom and sought an alternative way of life.

Ladies welcome to the 1970s the year where bras and corsets were seen as symbols of oppression and conformity and many women decided against the bra (wouldn’t that be nice). The year of women not feeling over powered by men, so much that they started to wear their clothing including baggy trousers, mens jackets, vests and oversized shirts.

The 1970s also brought about the year of the disco fashion, young people were flooding the clubs with new disco clothing that was designed to show off the body and shine on the dancefloor. Disco clothing including fabrics such as lycra and spandex decorated with velour and sequins. Some popular items of disco fashion included:

Well now that we have seen where our fashion has evolved from safe to say i am glad we are living in the 21st century!

HAIRSTYLES IN FASHION: SHORT

THE SUMMER SHORT HAIRSTYLE: THE

SMART CHOICE FOR WOMEN?

The hot weather in summer is always the biggest reason that many girls want to abandon long hair, so why not try the loose floating drop look with the hair bun, the hair tail chest or the bolder "refresh" itself with short hair. Cool, youthful personalities are the specific advantages that shorter hair could give you. However, in some girls' opinion, a switch from willowy long hair to a strong style like short hair is something they do not dare to try.

The charming Bob: The Bob hairstyle is a really very fashionable and stylish style regardless of the season. If you thought short hair only helped to bring dynamism and personality, the Bob hairstyle will make you think again! You can gently bend the tail hair, combined with the slanted roof willowy hair sample; it will be very lovely and also look very young for those who love soft and feminine beauty.

Pixie Hair: The layers of hair in this style always look simple and equally modern. The soft long hair is trimmed to help cover the edges of the face and the red-brown colour is the most popular choice for girls this summer.

Vintage fashion style combined with modern hair trends is the key to your own perfect hair at every angle. Whatever style, classical or modern, sleek and elegant hair could make a Bob hairstyle perfect. A creative Bob hairstyle with straight bangs is an ideal suggestion from me to help you stand out. Straight silky curls not only highlight your face but also look more attractive. The last important factor for unique hair is dyeing it. A hair dye would be more beautiful and more outstanding.

To sum up for the year 2012 fashion, hair trends always originate from celebrities, from actors to pop stars. For me, you do not need to follow every new trend because maybe it will not suit you. If too many people have the same hairstyle, you will not be able to make the difference. Please choose the best hairstyle to assert your individuality and make sure you can become a "Star" in front of everyone's admired look.

HAIRSTYLES IN FASHION: UPDO

EMBELLISHED UPDO HAIRSTYLE

We are entering spring time and the weather can change dramatically in the space of 24 hours! So, if you're looking for a simple hairstyle that is not fussy and has a real personality to go with any type of fashion or luxury, a hair bun or embellished updo hairstyle is a great look for the girlfriend who owns an elongated face and is easy to coordinate with everyday outfits.

In the collection of hairstyles female stars in the world, the high hair bun is versatile because of its simplicity and charm. This hairstyle has many different variations: romantic, youthful nobility or personality but the general point is this will help women to show the delicate beauty of their faces.
For me, a neat bun in the middle of the head is very beautiful tone and momentum. This hairstyle suits almost all faces, clothes and dresses so you can freely choose this hairstyle for the school day, to go out or to go to a party.

How do you make a simple embellished updo hairstyle? It’s very easy. First of all, to create a bun hairstyle, you first brush your hair neatly, forcing short hair up to the top of the ponytail. Then you use a rubber band column and wrap the hair around the column. You may need to adjust the bun in order to get the volume you want.

ACCESSORIES IN FASHION: EARRINGS

PIERCINGS VS. CLIP-ONS

Not everyone can be confronted with the fact that a needle is pierced through the skin creating a hole that you pierce a metal through, which in this case are earrings. Clip-ons have become a preferable alternative for younglings to the elderly. But to what extent can earrings damage the ears.

First of all piercings, it can be found almost everywhere on the body, from head to toe. Pretty much anywhere the skin can be punctured, a piercing could possibly be there. But now I will be focusing on ear piercings. From elegant pearls to the punk rock spikes, earrings potentially resemble the unique expression that everyone can be accompanied toward. The security of the earring to not be lost, demonstrates the earring's purpose to maintain its position on the ear lobe itself. BUT depending on the make of the earring and the compatibility of the skin, the earring may react differently. Personally, my skin reacts to copper and metal when it becomes punctured through my skin, causing the piercing to close and swell, resulting in an ear infection.
Some people are able to wear any sorts of earrings whether it is metal, copper, plastic or gold, which I envy. But in most cases with everyone else the ability to wear earrings without an allergic reaction is as simple as sliding the metal through the piercing.

Next comes the Clip-ons. Majority of users prefer the piercings because of the security of the earring to "not fall off" but in some cases such as myself, either an allergic reaction or the fear of needles leads us toward clip-on earrings. A simple clamp that hangs off the lobe of the ear, clip-on earrings are easy, versatile and simply elegant to where on one's ears. So why doesn't everyone wear it?
Besides the obvious reason of the earring detaching from the ear, the fashionable side to these clip-on earrings is its ability to create pressure on the ear. From my experience of wearing earrings, depending on the clamp, sometimes it can be a lot tighter to secure its place on the ear lobe; by doing so, my ear lobes loses circulation causing an indentation.

So which do you prefer? Piercings or Clip-ons?

FASHION SEASONS

WHAT AND WHEN TO WEAR

Being a university student comes with the problem of choosing outfits to wear each day. In school we didn’t have to think in the morning or the night before about what to wear, we just needed our uniforms to be washed! Now I am a university student that experiences the early morning problem of what to wear. I personally care about what I look like when I am in public as what you wear is who you are (from an ad I saw on tv yesterday). When I choose outfits I actually consider a few things, including the number of times I’ve worn the outfit, what the weather is like, if I am comfortable and if it looks good.
The weather and the season is a huge influence on what I choose to wear. My advice, always check the weather before you leave home especially in Australia as it changes frequently, so you need to be prepared. These are some of my favourite outfits, tips and essentials for each season.

Summer

In summer, basic dresses, shorts and shirts are the essentials I go to when dressing for summer days. Cute canvas shoes, thongs and sandals are great summer/spring footwear. Accessories are always lovely to wear in summer, less clothes therefore more room for accessories to stand out. In summer I love having at least 2 good pairs of sunnies, white clothes and wearing bright coloured nail polish (yes, I consider this an accessory).

Spring

Dresses, dresses and more dresses. In spring I love wearing dresses, skirts or tops with bright prints or lighter tones. They always make your outfit look cute and they look good on a beautiful spring day at the races. Maxi dresses or skirts are also perfect for spring (although I don’t wear any), I always see others wearing them and they look super comfortable. This is such a cute printed dress!

Autumn

In autumn I always have layers, majority of the time I wear layers to UNI as the weather is so unpredictable. Cardigans, stockings, fitted pants and basic tops are my favourite things to wear in autumn.

Winter

In winter try to keep your clothes bright and flattering. Just because it is winter and we want to be warm, doesn’t mean we have to add a million unnecessary layers. Be smart and buy clothes with warmer materials, even if they cost mroe, they will most likely last longer than a cheaper version. Another tip for those with long hair, having your hair out is useful in winter as it can be used like a scarf!

HAIRSTYLES IN FASHION: WAVY

FLOWING WITH THE WIND OF SUMMER SEASON

Are you tired of outdated and lifeless hair ?

If the answer is yes then it is time you bring vitality to your hair with the best treatments.

Continuing with transferring into a new season this year, I would love to highlight about the bigger blowout hairstyle, which is a re-emergence of spectacular long feminine looksNow, lets together update and refresh your look, with attractive longer hairstyles. Perhaps I have some tips for you to have the perfect long hair ideas.

The main trends of this season are wavy curls and curves. These feminine hairstyles will ensure you to gain advantages on the face as well as hair texture. Firstly, you can use tweezers or hot curls to create silky smooth waves. If you fear damaged hair, the first thing you need to do is take care of it by using a high quality conditioner.

The frequent hair thinning is one of the keys to vitality for your hair regeneration. This treatment can help you remove the split ends and create natural layers. The thin soft layers does not require any complex styling, although cumbersome while maintaining a youthful appearance and flexibility. In my opinion, you can also choose to cut thick layers if you want to have your own hair and personality.

Secondly, accessories also contribute to increased thickness and added volume to your perfect shiny curls. A natural hair style will be extremely subtle but no less elegant. Therefore, I think you should avoid curls too tight or too hard. Wavy hair and curly curling loose is enough to say the special taste of the owner. If you want hair to be more attractive and outstanding, you should spray a little glue on the hair. Also, you can combine longhair style with horizontal bangs. The bangs will flatten the facial contours perfectly, bringing you a stylish modern look.

Moreover, the sharp cuts in with a curved and wavy curls shiny will create a youthful, charm appearance. In order to protect your hair and support the work of changing the appearance, I recommend you shop for the products and styling tools such as glue, clamping, stretching and hair spray too. In my perspective, the bigger blowout style is currently presenting itself in the latest trends, which could emphasize strong, natural hair with many soft motions.

BOYS DO YOU THINK THIS IS FASHION?

BOYS DO YOU THINK THIS IS FASHION?

WELL YOU THOUGHT WRONG... THIS WEEK WE ARE INVESTING ARE MEN FASHION CRIMINALS?

Welcome back to our fashion blog, I have decided to continue on from my last blog….yes some women do make mistakes with their fashion….but men can be just as bad of a fashion criminal as women. So here are some fashion don’ts for men:
  1. Gentleman keep those oversized pants and slacks for bedtime no one wants to see your pants so loose that they are hanging around your ankles. Pack those pants away for a rainy day.
  2. Another fashion crime would be those Mandal shoes, if you want to rock this season and be the fashion setter rather than a fashion disaster pull out some new thongs or flip flops, leave those mandals in the wardrobe.
  3. Boys jump out of the 18th century and jump into the 21st. This summer keep those Hawaiian prints and solid colours for the younger child and step into this century.
  4. Fashion is ever changing so even though the skinny jeans may have been in, well guess what they are back out again gentlemen. Straight cut and medium rises are the thing to do. So next winter keep an eye out for those loose jeans cause seeing a mans package is really not a fascinating site.
  5. Lads of the world I think you may need to re think the tns lets be honest they don’t pull the girls and they really aren’t the most amazing shoe identified in the world, so get yourself some vans or rabens and pull some style this summer.
  6. Men should not be wearing big bulky shoes bigger than your head, as no one wants to walk with someone whose shoes move faster than they do.
  7. And last but not least and the most important one, no man, boy, teenager or elderly man should be wearing a bum bag, they are not appealing and are not necessary buy yourself a wallet and put it in your back pocket.

So gentleman re think this summer before you dress are you committing a fashion disaster?

ACCESSORIES IN FASHION: BAGS

ONE-SHOULDER, BOTH SHOULDERS, OR JUST NONE AT ALL

Now you are probably wondering is she talking about the shape of the torso section of a top or dress? Actually it is almost situated around there. BAGS.
Handbags, backpacks and clutches are several of the different styles that a bag can represent according to the practicality of the carrier. Some large enough to fit a whole camping set, and some so small that only a mobile phone and ID can fit (which in this case from my experience of going out clubbing). Different occasions call for different style of bags.

First we have the one-shoulder handbag. Depending on what design and style the user may prefer, the tendency for the handbag's content is to fit majority of the user's essentials. Mobiles phones, wallet (small or large), day planner and the list goes on. What I have in my handbag are the standard essentials that I need to progress through the day without feeling like I'm missing something that I should have: mobile phone, wallet, day planner, first aid kit and cash. Easy to carry and easy to access everything in one bag by my side, especially if I'm running late in the morning or trying to pay for something quickly because there is a huge queue behind me.
Although in most cases, all these essentials can be quite heavy for one-side of my body to handle, causing my body to "lop-side", which injures my spine, back and posture overall.

Next we have the backpack. From my experience, a backpack is essentially used throughout education, camping or a long road trip. Like the handbag, the backpack has all my essentials that I need everyday including my textbooks, lunch, drink bottles, pencil cases and the list goes on. Now you are probably wondering "wow this girl packs a lot, won't this hurt her back as well?". My answer, yes it does BUT it does not strain my posture because of the even weight distribution on both my shoulders. I have got to bring everything one way or another.
But my peeves on backpacks are its ability to lose the small things in such a huge compartment. Imagine your mobile phone ringing loudly in a quiet class because you forgot to turn it on silent. Well that has happened to me occasionally, and having to rummage everything out of the bag just to find out that it was not an important message is quite frustrating.

Lastly, we have the clutches. Small and easy to carry is, in my opinion, the suitable carrier when going out clubbing, a formal function or even a stroll down to the local store around the corner. The best carrier ever? Not really, when you think about it. Yes it is small and easy to carry but you can not really fit anything besides a mobile phone, cash, an ID or credit card. This small compartment is only limited to its size in the context of packing the essentials. During my uses of clutches, I feel quite naked in a way that all my other essentials are compacted or not included in a bag. Majority of the time I am out I get somewhat injured whether it be falling over, having a paper cut or just as simple as sanitising my hands. So the essentials are necessary of course.

So what kind of bag do you prefer?

HAIRSTYLES IN FASHION: BRAID & PLAITS

THE WORLD OF PLAITED HAIR

As you may know, the year 2012 has seen an amazing braided hair trend in fashion all over the fashion world. If you are getting bored with your daily hair and are looking for ideas for an important event, braided hair is an interesting suggestion and great hairstyle to perfect.

One of the most prevalent types of braids is the French braid. This hairstyle is impressive because it is quite easy to do and using skill and imagination, you can create hundreds of beautiful variations.

In my experience, whenever I am walking on the streets in summer time, I cannot help myself  from admiring the beautiful girl who has braided hair, make them more feminine. The 2012 fashion season will see the return of the classic style from decades ago, the plaited hair, which has grown strongly.

In fact, the braided pigtails are always popular since its inception and it will still travel with the women in the future. The reason plaited hair is never outdated because it is simple, yet elegant. In addition, it can be applied with any type of outfit, in any situation, whether it will be at work, walking on the street or being at a luxurious banquet.
